2011 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

Friday, October 7th, 2011

JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

The annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s “Walk to Cure” is coming up in October. Collectively, our team “Maximum Rays of Hope” has raised thousands of dollars towards finding a cure for Type I Diabetes over the past few years.

This year, I’ll be taking part in JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $89 million. Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children. There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it’s making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure. Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won’t you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!

Help fund the advance of Type I Diabetes treatment and progress towards a cure by donating here.

Thank you.

Playing for Change

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

From the award-winning documentary, “Playing For Change: Peace Through Music“, comes the first of many “songs around the world” being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it traveled the globe.

1982 Honda CB 750 Restoration Project

Friday, May 9th, 2008

During a quick weekend trip down to Connecticut I ended up running into someone who wanted to get rid of an old Honda CB motorcycle. This is a true “garage find” with all the original parts intact and less than 5,500 miles. This will be my 2nd vintage bike restoration, the first one being a 1978 Honda CB 550. Although I’ve been in the market for another late 70′s CB this free 1982 was just too hard to pass up!

Here is the priority list… we’ll see how quickly we’re able to make it through this:

  1. Carb Rebuild
  2. Gas Tank Electrolysis and Sealant
  3. Replace Piston Rings, Head Gasket, Battery, Tires
  4. Fix Front Brakes
  5. Seat/Handlebars Customization

Epic Day at Stowe

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

What a great way to start off 2008. Below are some of the highlights from a day of riding at Stowe, Vermont. In the morning we took advantage of the sunny groomers… in the afternoon we hiked to the summit of Mansfield and took a run down the Rock Garden.

Painting #1: The Wave

Here is a digital print of my first (and possibly last) attempt at an acrylic painting on canvas. An older digital photo titled: “Apocalypse in Navini” contributed some of the inspiration for this piece.

JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

It’s that time of the year again!

The annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s “Walk to Cure” is coming up in October. Collectively, our team “Maximum Rays of Hope” has raised thousands of dollars towards finding a cure for Type I Diabetes over the past few years.

Bite the bullet and help us out by making a donation.

JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes involves one-half million walkers across the country trying to reach a goal of raising $100 million. Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people—a large and growing percentage of them children. There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime! Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. – JDRF.ORG

We will be participating in the Agawam Massachusetts walk this year so… yes… it’s likely we’ll be dropping in on the Superman again.

Google Sitemap Effectiveness

Saturday, June 9th, 2007

After implementing the Google Sitemap Generator for WordPress on May 24th I started monitoring the number of pages Google was indexing for this site.

This plugin will create a google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. Currently homepage, posts, static pages, categories and archives are supported.

To calculate the number of pages indexed by Google a simple site:danielpeterjackson.com search was conducted on 5 different occasions during the last 15 days.

Example Search:
Google Site Search

Here are the results…

Day 0: (Baseline = 69 pages indexed)
Google Site Search Day 0

Day 2: (73 pages indexed)
Google Site Search Day 2

Day 3: (84 pages indexed)
Google Site Search Day 3

Day 15: (119 pages indexed and some new blue formatting)
Google Site Search Day 15

With exactly 50 more pages indexed and only 12 new pages created during the 15 days… it appears we are moving in the right direction although counting the total number of pages indexed is a fairly basic metric to measure the effectiveness of this plugin.

You can view the actual Google Sitemap XML here: http://www.danielpeterjackson.com/sitemap.xml
